Home and Community Services has provided me with the independence to do many things which I would not be able to do. This service provided me the opportunity to stay in my home and live. Instead of having to be placed in a nursing home. I am totally dependent on this service to get around because I am no longer able to do anything for myself. With the help of the attendants, I can prepare my own meals, pick out my own clothes, do work on the computer, and manage my own shopping and finances. Daily living includes getting a shower, doing range of motion, laundry, cleaning, and caring for my two cats, Mini and Mutsey, who are very devoted to me. I also grow a small garden each year with my attendants help. The service has also given me the opportunity to go on vacation with the companionship of my attendant. I would recommend Home and Community Services to any who needs it.
Home and Community Services has helped me become more independent since we had the bathroom modifications done. My attendant (Stepmother) Delores helps me in anyway she can, but it's easier for me now and since we have the ramp. Now I can get outside when the weather is decent and I even go up and down my driveway to try and build up my muscles. I really appreciate everything that Home and Community Services is doing for me.
Melinda and I would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude to Home & Community Services for all the years that the agency has kept Melinda out of a nursing home and home with me and her husband.
You have afforded Melinda a higher quality of life that we so very much desire. All of the attendants that have cared for Melinda have been a blessing. Melinda's present attendant, Nichole Everly is loyal, thoughtful, kinda, caring, and is doing an outstanding job.
Not only is Home & Community Services building bridges between homes, schools, communities and work; you have built the bridge by which I can help provide Melinda a better quality of life. In closing, Melinda also has a wonderful rapport with Jamie her service coordinator.
Eight years ago my son was in an auto accident. After spending 13 months in a nursing home, we were able to bring him home and my journey as his caretaker was about to begin. As many months passed I decided to take the advice of many and get some outside help. I selected a service that promised many things that never happened. The aide they sent me wasn't taking care of my son like I expected, and I decided to discontinue their service. Then someone suggested Home and Community Services. I knew from our first meeting with them that I had made the right choice.
Because of my son's service coordinater, Jaime Shemasek, he has his own adaptable bathroom. The days are now gone when we had to wheel him from his room downstairs, go outside, and around the house in the snow or rain to the upstairs bathroom to give him a bath. Because of the consumer model program that Home and Community Services offers, I am able to care for my son at home and get paid for doing it. My goal is to get my son to walk again, and with the help of Jaime and Home and Community Services those goals are becoming a reality.
Thank you Jaime and thank you Home and Community Services for being there.
Home and Community Services has been a blessing to me. After graduating college, I was seeking employment. I was worried about if I did get a job how would I get up, get ready, and get to work. My family worked and we would need to start our days at 4 am to get everyone ready and off to work if we didn't have help. Dianna McCord, the Elks Home Service Nurse, referred me to Home and Community Services for services and for employment. I got a call from Renee Forsberg wanting to come to my home and assess me for services. Then I got a call from Cathy Brown to come in for an interview. I was excited about the interview but was worried about how I would be able to accept a job if I didn't have help. I was then assessed and found eligible for services.
When I found out I could be consumer model and hire who I preferred, I was no longer hesitant to accept services. I did not want to have a stranger take care of my personal care needs. I wanted to be able to hire a friend or family member that I was comfortable with. I was able to do that through the consumer model services that were available to me.
Shortly after that I was offered the position at Home and Community Services. I started services and my employment with Home and Community Services within weeks of each other. It's because of my Attendant Care Services with Home and Community Services that I have been able to work for the past nine years. If I did not have these services I wouldn't be able to work full time. As a consumer with services I have been able to go to work full time, go on vacations with friends and family, and go on work related trips. As an employee, I remember calling Cathy Brown a few days before my start date and asking if my attendant could sit with me all day for a week, because I had never worked a day in my life. I was scared and thought what if I need something or what if I can't do something without assistance. She told me that there would be no need for that, my co-workers and herself would assist me in any way they could. She was not joking, from that day on everyone has been there to assist me in any way they can.
After Cathy's reassurance, my first day was fine. It has been a wonderful experience as a consumer and an employee with Home and Community Services for the past 9 years. Home and Community Services is a wonderful agency to work for and to receive services from. I have a great Service Coordinator and wonderful co-workers. Thank you to all my attendants and all my co-workers throughout the years for all that you all do for me.
Being a consumer of Home and Community Services has truly been a blessing to me. I was in desperate need of someone to be my aid because I was falling a lot and needed daily help with my activities for daily living due to my neuromuscular disease. My mother and father worked during the day and that is when I basically needed assistance, because they were both home from the evenings on. My mother and father both had to work, and I was leery about having a stranger stay with me. I really wanted my mother to do so, but she could not because my parents also needed her income. That is when I became connected with Home and Community Services, and they informed me that my mother could be my stay at home aide and get paid for doing the job. That was music to my ears. I could have my mother be my aide and get paid for the job. I loved hearing and knowing that information. I have been a consumer with Home and Community Services for 5 years. The agency is wonderful and very nice to work/deal with.
